The Curriculum - what it sets out

The Curriculum is a framework used by our school to ensure that teaching and learning is balanced and consistent.

It sets out:

• the subjects taught

• the knowledge, skills and understanding required in each subject

• standards or attainment targets in each subject - teachers can use these to measure your child's progress and plan the next steps in their learning

• how your child's progress is assessed and reported.

Within the framework of the GDE Cirrucilum, schools are free to plan and organise teaching and learning in the way that best meets the needs of their pupils.

Many schools use the Schemes of Work to plan their curriculum. This help to translate the Curriculum’s objectives into teaching and learning activities.

Programmes of study

For each Curriculum subject, there is a programme of study. The programmes of study describe the subject knowledge, skills and understanding pupils are expected to develop during each stage.

Teacher assessments

Your child’s teacher will carry out regular checks on their progress in each subject as a normal part of their teaching. At the end of the term they will carry out a formal “teacher assessment”, indicating which Curriculum level best describes your child’s performance in each area of learning.

We at The Heritage School are in the process of registering with the Independant Examination Board. The idea behind it is that we find the IEB to be a higher level of evaluation.

We will be making use of all the material to their disposal to make a teachers job easier so that they can concentrate on educating the learners instead of being snowed under by paperwork.

This curriculum, we feel is customized to be a well-balanced, integrated curriculum that promotes learning and development in all areas. The curriculum enhances the cognitive development of children, and builds upon the natural ways in which they learn. We encourage every child to achieve the highest level of skill and comprehension, while striving to cultivate each child's spirit, imagination and love of learning.

The curriculum offers opportunities for children to learn individually and in groups according to their developmental needs and interests. The curriculum promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of children, families and staff. The purpose is to provide a well-balanced, customized curriculum, while nurturing and increasing a child's aptitude and skills.

Each day we encourage the growth and evolution of a healthy, intelligent and contributing member of society We will put more importance on the essential skills that young people need to prepare them for work and adult life. We aim to create an atmosphere that is safe, serene and calm but bubbling with excitement because our teachers create an atmosphere of expectation and helps each learner grow into the exceptional person they were meant to be.
